Some Hopes

Pat is a valued part of The Flying Child community and has kindly shared this poem with us. (For clarity - this not the same Pat many associate with The Flying Child)

image of a river in winter. Trees line the bank. The sky is blue with white clouds

My hope, if not already, is -

One day, we really know

That we are not bad, or faulty,

And we know this in our bones.

I hope the world wakes up

To what has to be done.

And meanwhile, we all do really know

That we’ve done nothing wrong.

Not to blame

Not our shame

We did nothing wrong.

Not to blame

Not our shame

We did nothing wrong.

And I hope that we can feel OK

And maybe even have some fun.

Dogs and puppies, wagon wheels, Yorkshire tea.

Twixes and that other one, barley cup, that’s for me.

Time when the kids are happy, playing somewhere else.

We’re feeling calm in nature, all by ourselves.

Calm at work, and no one speaks that name we hate to hear.

And if we’re wanting cuddles,

There’s a dog - or cat - or human - somewhere near.

I hope someone really listens

And understands - or tries to.

And if we’re in despair

There’s someone we can cry to.

Not to blame

Not our shame

We did nothing wrong

Not to blame

Not our shame

We did nothing wrong

Finally, dear Flying Child

I’m sad to say Goodbye.

Danielle and Sarah

You are bright stars in my sky.

And I hope for all of us

One day, like happy children

We will fly.
